GRAND KNIGHT COMMENTS

Moving day January 2, 2018

Like it or not here it comes.  As you well know by now, Fr. John Eisen Council 1799 will become a parish based council on January 2nd.  Fr. Martin has graciously offered the use of the Columbia Room at St. John the Baptist School for our meeting place.  This does not mean that we are St. John’s Council.  We will still maintain our identity as a multi parish Council.  Both Fr. Martin and our Council Chaplain, Fr. Berns have expressed their desire to see the Council stay that way.  This is not to say that one of the Parishes couldn’t spin off and form their own Council if so desired.  I know there are some of our brothers who are not happy with this decision but we need to come together as Christians and continue our works of Charity.  Whether we have a hall should not define who we are as a Council.   That being said, here are the plans for the future.  We will continue to have Officer meetings on the first Thursday and regular business meetings on the second Thursday of each month.  We will be going down to 1 regular meeting per month.  There were only about 3 or 4 months out of the year that we had two so going to one should not be a problem.  The Columbia Room is in the basement of the school and can be reached from the south entrance and down a few steps.  There is a ramp at the west entrance for those who have trouble with steps. We are even planning to have a small luncheon after the meetings like we did years ago.
While on the subject of eating, we plan to continue our Landing Day and Clergy Night Banquets at Dillenburg Hall at Our Lady of Peace Parish.  Fr. Berns has a fantastic kitchen and he knows how to use it.  We are looking into the possibility of restarting the Men’s night dinners along with a few steak and fish fries at various times throughout the year.  This will require the help of our membership if this is to succeed but it would make a wonderful fundraiser for the Council.
We would like to use Sacred Heart Parish for any prayer services we have through the year such as the Silver Rose, the Memorial Mass and the Mass for the Unborn.  We would like to start the 5th Sunday Rosary and Mass for our Council to be held at the parishes on a rotating basis.  This could be followed by a breakfast. Come on out for the last meeting at the hall on December 14th.  Let’s pack the hall like we used to.

Gary Niziolek, Grand Knight

PRO-LIFE corner

Bill is a pewsitter.  Don’t be like Bill.  Bill comes to Sunday Mass and sometimes daily Mass but fails to listen to the readings, Father’s homily or participate in any of the prayers.  He might spend his hour thinking about all the things he will do the rest of the day or the upcoming week.  He could be fussing with his hair the whole time  because …well…he knows he is the hottest guy in church.  Soooo don’t be like Bill.
Be like Pete.  Pete comes to Mass a little early so he can read the reading ahead of time.  He knows a young family could sit in front of him having the worst day ever and he will be distracted.  But Pete is very happy they came anyway.  And as far as Father’s great homily, he knows it is recorded on his parish website.  Be like Pete. What does this have to do with Prolife?  Your life is precious so feed yourself the word of God and let our priests explain it to you.  Also, don’t forget to sing. If He gave you a terrible voice, LET HIM HEAR IT.

VOLUNTEER HOURS

With the end of the year coming up on us again we need to report our volunteer hours to Supreme by the end of January. If you have donated any time to any charitable causes this year, please let us know. This can range from anything like ushering at your church, helping with KC fish fries, helping with Habitat for Humanity, giving blood, visiting the sick, working with youth groups and many more. As you know the Knights of Columbus is a charitable organization and to keep that status, Supreme needs a report of those hours. If you have given your time, THANK YOU!
Please report those hours via the contact information below by January 15. Help us to let Supreme know what the good people of the Marshfield area are doing.
