CHAPLAIN'S REMARKS: The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the month of July is dedicated to the Precious Blood of Jesus. St. John in his gospel tells us what he witnessed after Jesus died on the Cross. The Centurion pierced the side of Jesus, and blood and water flowed out of his heart. The Church has always looked on this Water and Blood of Jesus as the source of Sacramental Life of His Church. On the occasion of the multiplication of the 5 barley loaves and 2 fish, Jesus promised us the Eucharist, his Body and Blood. He fulfilled that promise at the Last Supper by giving us the “Blood of the new covenant” St. Paul tells us that “we have redemption through his blood.” St Peter tells us “You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the Precious blood of Christ.”
Jesus gave us the Eucharist, His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity, to remain with us, through his Church, until the end of time. Not as a memorial of the past but as a living Memorial, a living presence through his Church, in each one of us. Jesus is present, in the Eucharist, under the forms of Bread and Wine, as he was 2,000 years ago in the upper room and upon the Cross of Calvary. In each Mass, Jesus invites us to join with Him as he continues to offer Himself to his Heavenly Father. This is why the Eucharist is called the “Source and Summit of the Sacramental life of the Church.”
Pope John Paul II wrote: “The Church and the world have a great need for Eucharistic worship. Jesus awaits us in this sacrament of love. Let us not refuse the time to go to meet him in adoration, in contemplation full of faith, and open to making amends for the serious offenses and crimes of the world. Let our adoration never cease.”
Pope Benedict XVI in his Apostolic Letter on the Eucharist (The Sacrament of Charity) stated: Wherever possible, it would be appropriate to set aside specific Churches of Oratories for Perpetual Adoration.” Since 15 June 2007, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament has taken place from 9:00 AM Friday to 9:00 AM Saturday at Sacred Heart Church. This is a project of the Marshfield Deanery. Plans for Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration are being made to begin in September. I would encourage all Knights and Lady Knights to volunteer one Hour a week or even one hour a month to support this effort. More information will be coming forth during the summer months. For more information or to volunteer call Laura Kloess at 207-0366.
Continue reading Bishop Lori’s column in the Columbia, as he continues his refresher course on the fundamentals of our faith as presented in the “Compendium of the Catholic Catechism”. This month he presents who is this God we worship: A Trinity of Love.
Pray for an increase in vocations to the Priesthood. Pray for the success of Perpetual Adoration in the Marshfield Deanery. Pray for your individual and family needs. Pray at least one prayer together as a family each day. Join with Catholics throughout the world by praying for the intention of the Holy Father, which you will find in the COLUMBIA, on page 5 at the end of Bishop Lori’s column. GOD BLESS!
Father Bernard Raschke, Council Chaplain

PRO-LIFE CORNER: There has been a major leap in stem-cell research. In an advance that could transform stem cell research and accelerate progress toward treating patients with personalized replacement tissue, American and Japanese researchers report they have reprogrammed ordinary human skin cells to behave like embryonic stem cells. By inserting four key genes in the cells, the scientists say they created a form of stem cell that can grow into virtually any kind of tissue – a feat that previously required destroying embryos to extract cells. The discovery may clear a path for researchers to produce stem cells more easily and without the ethical issues of embryo destruction. Reprogramming adult cells has been the Holy Grail of the field all along. Experts were shocked that the two teams seem to have reached that goal so quickly. President Bush was pleased that the studies showed how to harness the capabilities of stem cells without destroying embryos.
This program provides medical advantages as well as clear moral advantages. This means there’s a whole new area of research that Congress needs to fund.
Marv Fait, Pro-Life Chairman

GRAND KNIGHT'S COMMENTS:
Thank you to my brother Knights for your support. I am looking forward to another good year. We’ve made excellent strides forward in some of our programs, but we also can improve in other areas.
As our leadership sets up this next year, please help by volunteering your time to help with some of the many programs we are active in.
We exceeded the two tickets per member benchmark in charity raffle sales. Now, if we could hit three tickets per member we might finally reach the bonus level. Thanks to all who support the raffle by selling and purchasing the tickets.
We topped the $8,000 mark in collecting tootsie roll donations in 2008.
Richard Thomer, Grand Knight
